The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) has issued a directive exempting renewable energy plants located within Special Economic Zones (SEZs) or Export-Oriented Units (EOUs) from the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) requirements, on the condition that they exclusively supply power for green hydrogen production.
This initiative is intended to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy infrastructure crucial for producing green hydrogen and its derivatives within these zones. By removing the ALMM regulations, which mandates the compulsory registration of solar PV models used in Indian projects, the MNRE aims to eliminate regulatory delays that could hinder the timely execution of green hydrogen projects.
The exemption applies to all relevant renewable energy projects commissioned by December 31, 2030. This strategic exemption is expected to substantially enhance the production capabilities of green hydrogen plants, enabling them to source power more flexibly and cost-effectively. Consequently, this move will support India’s clean energy objectives and its commitment to reducing carbon emissions, positioning the country as a leader in the global transition to sustainable energy.
