The Government of India approved the PM Surya Ghar: Mufta Bijli Yojana on February 29, 2024 to accelerate the adoption of solar rooftop installations and empower residential households to generate their own electricity. This ambitious scheme, with an outlay of INR 750 billion, aims to significantly boost solar capacity by FY 2026-27.
As part of its implementation strategy, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) issued guidelines for vendor registration on May 7, 2024, to streamline the process via a National Portal.
Vendors are required to register at the national level, with REC Limited designated as the national registering authority. To qualify, vendors are required to submit a bank guarantee of INR 2.5 million, and the validity of this registration will be for a period of five years. Once registered, vendors will be authorized to install rooftop solar plants under the scheme across any district in any state.
To enhance transparency and facilitate consumer access, vendors should also indicate the specific states and districts where they intend to operate. This information will be made available in the consumer search list on the National Portal. In the event of any delays in establishing the process flow for national registration, the National Program Implementation Agency will conduct the registration through physical means as an interim measure.
